Bfly Atelier Presents:
Documents and Dreams

Photograph by Beverley Abramson
A Group Exhibit of Canadian Documentary Photography
November 13, 2003 - November 25, 2003
Opening Reception: Thursday November 13, 2003, 7pm - 10pm
Bfly Atelier presents a group exhibition demonstrating the state of contemporary
Canadian documentary photography. Organized by Narrative 360, this exhibit consists
of 35 individual photographers, both established and emerging, and each artist given the opportunity
to represent their body of work with only one photograph. These photographs, rather than losing
their context, remain potent, a compelling indication of the power of visual narrative. Featured
artists include Larry Towell, Zahra Kazemi, Roger Lemoyne, Ruth Kaplan,
Robert Semeniuk, Elaine Briere, David Campion, Alexandra DiezBarroso,
Christopher Grabowski, Brian Howell, and Frank Vena.
Please join us for the Opening Reception Thursday November 13th, 7pm - 10pm.
Also, the panel discussion Why Document? is being held Thursday November 20th
at 7pm at Bfly Atelier. Present for this discussion will be CBC producer
Kathleen Flaherty as moderator, as well as a panel of documentary practitioners and
commentators, including radio documentarist Don Mowat, author and editor David Beers,

NARRATIVE 360 is a non-profit organization advancing the role of the documentary arts in
civil society and supporting their development in the areas of photography, video, audio and
literary journalism. The organization is committed to intellectual discourse regarding media
representation of societies, cultures and communities, and supports work in the documentary arts as
a way of understanding the social and cultural fabric of humanity. NARRATIVE 360
considers the power of the documentary genre to be based in its ability to facilitate
communication through the presentation of stories and images that push beyond the increasingly
narrow confines of mainstream media. NARRATIVE 360 recognizes documentary as an
unaffiliated social force and maintains that it is fundamental to the progress of civil society.
